London Street Art, The Hidden Pieces
London Street Art, Keep An Eye Out For The Hidden Piece
No longer suffering from the stigmas and stereotypes of yesteryear, street art and street graffiti have now become part of today’s modern landscape. Most people seem to have accepted this creative form of individuality and, with the change of mind state, comes far more street artists ready to show their talent off.
Artists like Banksy have become famous nationwide, but there are hundreds of artists out there who create superb pieces on the walls of London, so with that being said, here’s an insight into some of the pieces you can see in the capital.
Recognised worldwide for his unbelievable pieces of work, ROA is one of the finest street artists active and, when he came to London, he decided to sprinkle the capital with some of his magic.
What’s the last thing you expect to see when driving or walking past Shoreditch? A massive hedgehog? Yep, pretty much. It’s ridiculous to think that a guy with some paint and talent can create such a wonderful piece of art. And while a big, scary Hedgehog may not be to everyone’s taste, it is an impressive talking point for any tourist or resident of the town.
ROA didn’t just use his fetish for hedgehogs to impress the residents of London, as he also took his talents to a big gate in Buxton. He decided to create an extremely distinctive pig which has its muscle fibres on show. It’s quite an evocative piece which is guaranteed to divide opinion – but what street art doesn’t?
Thankfully, there are street artists who don’t like to use massive images of pigs, just like this piece from Sheffield-based artist Phlegm. Located near Brick Lane, this lovely piece took him three days to complete and is in typical black and white theme.
And like many great street artists, Phlegm likes to collaborate. He took his talents and combined them with the aforementioned ROA to creative this extremely detailed bird in the centre of Peckham.
They were in a creative mood and joined forces for quite a few more pieces. It makes you wonder just how these guys do it. They’re definitely putting their stamp on the city, even if it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
If black and white just isn’t your thing, then C215 may be the street artist for you, as the famous artist likes to use vibrant colours to really brighten up walls across London. As you can with this piece, his work is quite detailed but also very eye-catching. This piece was found on Brick Lane and just shows the efforts these artists go to when trying to turn London into a real hot-spot for street art.
There are plenty more up-and-coming street artists who will be creating some beauty in the next few years so just keep an eye out for them, but for now at least we’re seeing some form of creativity from the talented artists out there.
