Gaming has always been something that has amazed us. If we look back from 10 years ago to now, we can see how far gaming has truly come. We started off in a pixelated world, whereas now we all look forward to some stunning high definition graphics. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t took time and patience to get here. If it wasn’t for the incredible advancements of technology, we definitely wouldn’t be where we are today. There have been a few major milestones reached in the last few years, and there’s looking to be another few major ones right around the corner. Whichever way you look at it, gaming has improved massively. If you’re wondering how, here’s a short run through about how some platforms have evolved.
PC
PC gaming is definitely one of the ones that has come a hell of a long way. People are now playing PC games more than they seem to be playing normal ones. It isn’t as common for PC gaming to now be considered nerdy. But, it has had to come a long way to get there. Around 10 years ago we were staring at a screen with characters made out of blocks. Now we’re looking at screens that have the power to produce a better picture quality than most consoles do. This is because the screens the gamers are playing on are generally smaller than the TV’s that consoles are played on. And they’re being specifically designed for gaming, so they have a much higher resolution. The people producing the games that are played on PC are also taking much more time to better the graphics. They’re already so much more lifelike than they were at the times of the Playstation 2 etc. A lot of people are predicting that PC gaming will take over console gaming in the coming year. Purely due to the fact that the game play is better, and the quality of graphics is much higher. It feels like a more personal experience when playing PC.
Mobile
If it wasn’t for the amazing app stores, mobile gaming would definitely still be a thing of the past. There was so much stigma around mobile gaming that it was rubbish compared to console, but still people loved to play them. Nobody can deny they loved a quick game of snake. But again, if you compare snake to some of the games available today, you’ll easily be able to see the difference in graphics. It also does help that the resolution and quality of phone screens has also massively improved in the past years. There’s so many great games to choose from as well, most of them being free. Take Final Fantasy for example, you can establish your kingdom in the Final Fantasy 15 mobile game in some of the best quality graphics you’ll ever be able to. The great thing about mobile gaming as well is that it’s something you can do on the move. So many people rush home to jump on their console. With a game like Final Fantasy you can play it pretty much anywhere, as long as you have a decent connection.
Console
Console is definitely the most popular platform out there. It always has been, and it always will be. Whilst PC is creeping up, it definitely won’t be taking over the mighty consoles anytime soon, especially the giants such as Xbox and Playstation. They have dominated the gaming world for too long, and both have worked extremely hard to try and have the most up to date graphics. Both the Xbox one and the Playstation have 4K resolution capabilities, both for gaming and for watching videos. The variety of games also means the graphics does also vary. Different game producers fail to keep their graphics up to date. If you play a game such as the new Assassin’s Creed, and compare it to the high quality graphics of Call Of Duty, you should be able to tell the difference in quality straight away. So whilst the console does play a big part in the rendering of the graphics, the actual company who designs them needs to be stepping up their game too. Consoles such as the Nintendo have always had to take a bit of a back seat in terms of popularity, but they also have big capabilities in terms of graphics. Their latest console has seen a massive leap in quality over the previous model.
So, as you can see, graphics are always evolving, and the race to the be the best is always going to be happening.
